Health course description and Google Classroom

Welcome to Health class. Please make sure you come prepared with a required folder with pockets to store all of your handouts and study materials along with the  paper and something to write with.
Health education is the process of imparting information about Health in such a way that the participant is motivated to use that information for the protection and advancement of self, family, and overall community Health.

A Health course grade level syllabus will be provided to each student that outlines the units of study that will be covered along with grade weights. Please read and discuss the syllabus with your student.
All 8th graders enrolled in the High School  Health course 2nd semester  will be receiving the 9th grade Health course required for High School Graduation. This course will be applied to the student's high school transcript upon completion.

Family life will be covered in grades 6-8 and any parent opting to not have their student participate in the family life unit must email the Principal Dr. Carter Akins  making that request. The curriculum in its entirety may be viewed in the school admin office upon request. If you have any concerns I will be more than happy to discuss the curriculum or answer any concerns you may have. My number is 912 2674150 ext.2181. If I am not available please leave a message and I will return your call during my planning period. Thank you.

Sex ed Rights

  • Georgia state law requires sex ed is taught in public schools.
  • The state board of education in Georgia decides the grade levels subject are taught as well as the guidelines for sex ed curriculum, and instruction must “emphasize abstinence from sexual activity until marriage and fidelity in marriage as important personal goals.”
  • Although they must be notified, teens in Georgia do not need their parents’ permission to participate in sexuality education or HIV/AIDS education classes. Parents can take their children out of sex ed classes if they wish, though, by sending a notice to their child’s school. This is called an “opt out” policy.

HIV/AIDS and Other STDs Education

  • Georgia state law requires STDs and HIV/AIDS education is provided to public school students.
