Susannah Mize was named Teacher of the Year at Glynn Middle School. She has taught Social Studies and ELA for grades 6 and 8 for the past six years. Here are some awesome things you should know.

Family: I’m currently engaged to my amazing fiance, Reid. We’re getting married this upcoming January! I’m blessed to have the most supportive dad (Gerry), sister (Ansleigh), mother- and father-in-law (Carson and Peter), and brother-in-law (Garrett). My family constantly goes above and beyond to make sure that I always feel supported and loved.
Who is your role model? My biggest role model is my dad. My mom died when I was 3, so my dad has always played the role of both parents. My dad made sure that my older sister, Ansleigh, and I always had what we needed. One of my fondest memories growing up was when my dad would wake us up for school, have a Poptart on the counter for us (with our lunches packed), then he’d do our hair for school. My dad has always amazed me with how much love he has for me. He put his own grief on the backburner, so my sister and I could heal and continue on. Dad, I love you. Thank you for always loving and supporting me.
What book has most influenced you? Dear Martin by Nic Stone
What is your greatest teaching memory? There are so many memorable moments in teaching – from incredible learning experiences to hilarious classroom jokes and conversations, but my all time favorite memory or part of teaching is the relationships I’ve built with students. I love when former students come to visit and fill me in on what they’re up to. Being a support and encouragement for them doesn’t stop when they leave my classroom – they have that for life.

What is a fact about you that most people don't know? I didn’t get my driver’s license until I was 23!
Any hidden talents or hobbies? I love traveling, theatre, and all things Disney!
