Mike Blackerby Named Superintendent of Glynn County Schools

Following an executive session at the January 14, 2025, Board Meeting, the Glynn County Board of Education unanimously approved the selection of Mr. Mike Blackerby as the new Superintendent of the Glynn County School System, effective July 1, 2025. He will succeed current Superintendent Scott Spence, who will retire at the end of the school year on June 30, 2025.

“I’m truly honored to be named the new superintendent and look forward to collaborating with our staff, students, and community to uphold and enhance the tradition of excellence in Glynn County schools,” he said.

Mr. Blackerby brings nearly 30 years of experience in public education to his new role. He currently serves as the Deputy Superintendent of Operations for the Glynn County School System, a position he has held since 2024. In this role, he has been instrumental in overseeing the departments of Information Technology, Operations, School Nutrition, and Transportation. His responsibilities also include ESPLOST construction and management, school zoning, energy management, and school safety and risk management.

Mr. Blackerby began his career in education as a physical education teacher and coach for golf, track and football in the Camden County School System.

Throughout his career, Mr. Blackerby has held various leadership positions, including Assistant Principal and Principal of Woodbine Elementary School, Director of Transportation, and Director of Operations in Camden County Schools. He joined the Glynn County School System in 2021 as the Executive Director of Operations, where he continued to demonstrate his commitment to excellence in education and administration. In 2023, he was named the Assistant Superintendent of the Operations Department before assuming his current role as the Deputy Superintendent.

A proud graduate of Brunswick High School, Mr. Blackerby earned his bachelor’s degree in physical education from the University of Georgia in 1995. His dedication to education and leadership led him to pursue further studies, earning a master’s degree in educational leadership from Georgia Southern University in 2000 and an educational specialist degree in instructional technology from Valdosta State University in 2004.
